This landing stage was added to the terminal for use as a Heliport. The purpose of this was due to the  dangers of this type of industry both here and at the neighbouring Oilrig Construction Site there had to be a way of evacuating injured persons quickly as the nearest hospital by road was too long. There is a metal walkway that crosses the water to the main jetty.

The heliport was used several times in the 1980s and especially during the miners strike in 1984.

Nowadays it is not used for that purpose and is just an added extra to the jetty.
